Botsmith vs Gorgias
Gorgias is a help desk built for online stores, with an AI agent that can answer shoppers and act on their orders. Botsmith is a much smaller tool. It reads your website and your files, answers visitors from them, and emails you when someone wants a person. If you sell on Shopify and your team spends the day on "where is my order" tickets, you are probably looking at Gorgias. If you run a small business and just want your website to answer questions, read on. This page sets out what each one charges, what it does, and who it suits, with Gorgias prices checked on 20 October 2026.

How Gorgias charges, in plain terms
Gorgias sells two products that you can buy together: Helpdesk and AI Agent.
The help desk is priced by tickets, not by people. Its pricing page says the help desk scales from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month and is never priced per agent. Starter includes 50 tickets a month, Basic 300, Pro 2,000 and Advanced 5,000. If you go over, Starter charges $0.40 a ticket. Basic charges $40 per 100 extra tickets, and Pro and Advanced charge $36 per 100.
The AI agent is priced by what it settles. Gorgias says the AI agent is on every plan and you pay only when it resolves a conversation. Each automated interaction costs $1.00 on Starter, $0.90 on Basic and Pro, and $0.85 on Advanced. The monthly bundles include a block of them: 30 on Starter and Basic, 190 on Pro and 530 on Advanced.
Botsmith counts messages. Starter's 2,000 is the number of visitor messages the bot will answer in a month. There are no tickets, because Botsmith has no ticket queue, and no per-answer charge on top.
A rough way to compare for a small shop: if 100 shoppers a month get their question settled by the bot, the Gorgias Starter bundle covers 30 of them and the other 70 are charged at $1.00 each. On Botsmith those 100 conversations come out of the 2,000 messages in Starter. But that is only fair if a plain answer is all you need. The Gorgias agent can do things Botsmith cannot, as the next section explains.
What the money buys
With Gorgias you get a support hub for a store. Gorgias describes the help desk as an all-in-one support hub designed for ecommerce and Shopify that brings every customer channel together. It lists email, chat, social and a help centre as channels, connects to Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce, and says it has more than 150 app integrations. Voice and SMS can be added to any plan.
The AI agent is the part that overlaps with Botsmith, and it goes further. Gorgias says it resolves support questions, converts shoppers with personalised chat, and automates actions like returns and order tracking. Its pricing table lists actions such as cancel, discount and apply. In other words, it can look up an order and change it, not just tell the shopper where the returns policy is.
With Botsmith you get an answer bot and little else. It crawls your public pages and answers from them. It also answers from PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CSV files you upload, so a price list or a policy that is not on your website still counts. It replies in whatever language the visitor writes in. When your content does not cover a question it says it is not sure, and does not invent a price or a policy. When a visitor leaves a name, phone or email, you get an email within seconds with the full transcript.
What Botsmith lacks is everything around the answer. There is no ticketing, no shared inbox, no store integration and no way for the bot to look up or change an order. If that is the reason you are shopping, Gorgias is the closer fit.
When Gorgias is the better choice
- You run an online store on Shopify, WooCommerce or BigCommerce and most of your questions are about orders, deliveries and returns.
- You want the bot to act on an order, such as cancelling it or applying a discount, not just answer.
- You have staff who answer email, chat and social messages and you want them all in one inbox with tickets.
- Several people need their own login. Even Gorgias Starter includes 3 user seats.
- You want reports on support performance and on revenue from conversations.
When Botsmith is the better choice
- You are not an online store, or your store questions are mostly about products, sizes, delivery areas and policies that are already written down.
- Nobody on your side answers chats during the day, so a help desk would sit empty.
- You want a monthly bill that does not move with the number of tickets or settled conversations.
- You want a chat link and QR code for printed materials, email signatures or social profiles, not only a widget on your site.
- You are happy for the bot to take a visitor's details and email you, and you will reply yourself.
To be straight about the limit: Botsmith will not grow into an ecommerce help desk. If your store grows a support team, you will be moving to a product like Gorgias, not upgrading a Botsmith plan.
Trying each one
Both let you start without a card. Gorgias says you can start free with no credit card required and be live on your store in under an hour. Botsmith's trial is 14 days with 200 messages. For a fair test of Gorgias, connect your store so the agent can see orders. For Botsmith, type in your website address, wait a few minutes, and ask it the ten questions customers ask you most.
If you are comparing other tools that pair a help desk with AI, see how Botsmith compares with Intercom Fin, Zendesk AI agents and Tidio and Lyro. There is also a wider list of Chatbase alternatives sorted by how they charge. Botsmith's plans are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Gorgias cost?
When we checked on 20 October 2026, the Gorgias help desk started at $10 a month for 50 tickets on Starter, then $60 for 300 tickets on Basic, $360 for 2,000 on Pro and $900 for 5,000 on Advanced, billed monthly. Adding the AI agent made Starter $40 a month with 30 automated interactions included.
How does Gorgias charge for its AI agent?
Per automated interaction: $1.00 each on Starter, $0.90 on Basic and Pro, and $0.85 on Advanced, with a block included in each AI bundle. Gorgias says you pay only when the agent resolves a conversation. Botsmith counts visitor messages instead, with no per-answer charge.
Is Gorgias priced per agent?
No. Gorgias prices the help desk by tickets per month and says it is never priced per agent. Starter includes 3 user seats and the other plans 500. A Botsmith account has a single login.
Can Botsmith look up or change a Shopify order like Gorgias?
No. Botsmith answers from your website pages and the files you upload, and emails you when a visitor leaves their details. It has no store integration and cannot act on an order. If that is what you need, Gorgias is built for it.
Which is better for a small business that is not an online store?
Usually Botsmith. Starter is US$19 a month with 2,000 messages, and it answers from your own website and documents. Gorgias is designed for ecommerce support teams, and much of what you pay for is ticketing and store actions.
