Botsmith vs Intercom Fin

Updated 14 September 2026 · prices and features checked 14 September 2026

Fin is the AI agent from Intercom. You do not buy it as a monthly plan with an allowance. You pay for each outcome, which mostly means each conversation Fin resolves. Botsmith works the other way round: a fixed monthly price covers a set number of answered messages. Which model suits you depends on your chat volume and on whether you already run a help desk. Below is what Fin's and Intercom's own pricing pages said when we checked on 14 September 2026.

What Fin counts as an outcome

Fin's pricing page lists four kinds of billable outcome. A resolution is when no further help is requested after Fin's last answer. A procedure handoff is when Fin finishes a procedure you set up to pass the customer to a person. A disqualification and a qualification relate to sales leads. The first three cost $0.99 each and a qualification costs $9.99. You are charged for one outcome per conversation even if Fin takes several actions, and you are not charged when a conversation simply goes to your team without an outcome. The page also mentions alerts, limits and real-time reporting so you can cap spending.

Botsmith has nothing to classify. Each question the bot answers uses one message from your monthly allowance, whether or not the visitor then asks for a person. When the allowance runs low you move to a bigger plan rather than seeing a larger invoice.

What that means for a small business bill

Take a business with no support staff and one website. If you add Fin to a help desk you already use, the 50-outcome monthly minimum at $0.99 each already costs more than Botsmith Starter for the month, before Fin has handled a busy week. If you use Intercom's own help desk instead, you pay for at least one seat as well as outcomes. The seat price depends on the plan you choose and whether you pay monthly or annually, and the figure shown on Intercom's pages changed between our visits, so check it in checkout.

Per-outcome pricing has a real upside. You pay nothing for conversations Fin does not close, and a quiet month costs less. For a company handling thousands of support conversations with a team behind the AI, that can be the better deal. For a shop, clinic or agency that mostly needs opening hours, prices and booking questions answered, a known monthly figure is usually easier to plan around.

When Botsmith is the better fit

  • You want to know the cost before the month starts. Starter is US$19 a month and Pro is US$49 a month, whatever mix of questions arrives.
  • You do not run a help desk and do not want one. Botsmith is set up from your web address alone. Leads come to your email with the transcript attached.
  • Your prices and policies live in files. Upload PDF, Word or Excel documents and the bot answers from them as well as your pages.
  • You reach customers offline or on WeChat. Print the QR code, share the chat link, or let the bot reply on your WeChat Official Account.
  • You would rather not build procedures. Botsmith has no workflows to design. It collects the questions it could not answer, and your reply becomes part of what it knows.

When Intercom Fin is the better fit

  • You already run Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front, Zoho or Gorgias. Fin plugs into these, and Intercom says there are no extra seat costs on that route. Botsmith does not connect to any help desk.
  • Your customers write by email, SMS or WhatsApp. Fin can answer across those channels, and Fin Voice is available on custom pricing. Botsmith handles text chat only.
  • The AI needs to change things. Fin can update external systems and follow procedures you configure. Botsmith answers questions and collects contact details, nothing more.
  • You want to test before customers see it. Fin lists simulations, regression tests and previews.
  • You have a large support team. Intercom's Expert plan lists SSO, identity management and HIPAA support, and Intercom sells a seat for each teammate who needs one. A Botsmith account has one login.
  • You only want to pay when a problem is solved. That is the core of Fin's model.

How Botsmith decides what to say

Each reply starts with a search of the pages and files you gave it. The bot writes its answer from the passages it finds and links to the source page. If nothing matches, it says so plainly instead of making up a price or rule, and it offers to pass the visitor's details to you. Visitors are answered in the language they write in. Owner instructions you add apply to every reply straight away, with no re-crawl.

Choosing between them

  1. Look at last month's enquiries. Count how many were simple questions and how many needed someone to act.
  2. If most were simple and nobody answers chats full time, start a Botsmith trial with your website address and test those questions.
  3. If most needed action in another system, or you already pay for a help desk, run Fin's 14-day trial on that desk and watch how many outcomes it records.
  4. To install Botsmith on WordPress, follow the step-by-step guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Intercom Fin cost?

When we checked on 14 September 2026, Fin was $0.99 per outcome. Used with another help desk, a minimum of 50 outcomes per month applied. Used with Intercom's own help desk, you also pay for at least one Full seat, priced by the plan you pick.

Does Fin charge when it cannot solve the problem?

Fin's pricing page says you are not charged when a conversation is simply passed to your team without an outcome, and you pay for at most one outcome per conversation. A procedure you set up to hand off to a person does count as an outcome.

Is Botsmith cheaper than Fin?

For a small website, usually. Botsmith Starter is US$19 a month for 2,000 answered messages. Fin's 50-outcome monthly minimum on another help desk, at $0.99 each, already comes to more than that. For large teams who only want to pay for solved conversations, Fin's model can work out better.

Can Botsmith work inside Intercom or Salesforce?

No. Botsmith has no integrations or public API. It runs as its own chat bubble on your site, a chat link with a QR code, and replies on a WeChat Official Account. If the AI must live inside your help desk, Fin is designed for that.
