Botsmith vs Tidio and its Lyro AI agent

Updated 14 September 2026 · prices and features checked 14 September 2026

Tidio began as a live chat tool and now sells three products you can buy together or on their own: a help desk for your staff, Flows for scripted automation, and Lyro, its AI agent. Botsmith is only an AI support bot that answers from your website and the files you upload. That split explains most of the differences below, from how usage is counted to who ends up answering the customer.

Figures are from Tidio's pricing and Lyro pages when we checked on 14 September 2026. Tidio's self-serve plan prices sit behind a monthly or annual switch, and the page text we could read does not say which billing period each figure belongs to, so we have left those prices out. The larger tiers are clearer: Plus starts at $300 a month plus usage, and Premium is priced on request.

Three meters on one bill

Tidio sells Lyro, its customer service tools and Flows as three core products, and you can buy each one on its own or bundle them. Its plan comparison table gives each one a separate quota. The first is billable conversations: chats, tickets and messages where someone on your team replies. Replies from Lyro or Flows do not count toward that number, and messages you leave unanswered are not billed. The second is Lyro AI Agent conversations. The third is visitors reached via Flows, its proactive automation. Your total depends on how your customers split between people, AI and scripts.

Botsmith has one meter. Your plan sets how many visitor questions the bot can answer each month, and that is the whole bill. There is no human inbox to pay for because there is no human inbox. The catch is that the units do not line up. A single Lyro conversation can hold a dozen answers, while Botsmith counts each answered question. A customer who asks four things uses one Lyro conversation and four Botsmith messages, so compare the two using your real chat patterns, not the headline numbers.

When Botsmith is the better fit

  • Nobody on your team sits in a chat window. If you want questions answered and leads sent to your inbox, a separate help desk is cost and setup you will not use. Botsmith emails you the visitor's details and the full transcript within seconds.
  • You want one fixed monthly number. Starter is US$19 for up to 2,000 answered messages, with no separate AI, human and automation quotas to watch.
  • You run more than one website. Pro includes five bots, and each bot reads its own site. Tidio's FAQ notes that when one Tidio project is added to several sites, the chat widget shares the same appearance and behaviour settings across all of them.
  • Key answers sit in documents. Upload a price list, policy or product sheet as PDF, Word or Excel, and the bot answers from it alongside your pages.
  • Your customers are not all on your website. A chat link and QR code can go on flyers, menus or email signatures, and the same bot can reply on a WeChat Official Account.
  • You want the badge gone as part of the plan. Pro removes "Powered by" at no extra charge.

When Tidio is the better fit

  • You have staff who chat with customers. Tidio puts live chat, tickets, email and AI in one place, with room for up to 10 agents on self-serve plans. Botsmith has no live chat for your team and a single login.
  • You sell on Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp. Tidio lists integrations for all three plus email. Botsmith's channels are your website, a shareable link and WeChat.
  • You want proactive messages and lead-capture scripts. Flows trigger on visitor actions and can run quote requests or collect data. Botsmith only replies when someone asks.
  • You need the bot to do things, not just answer. Lyro Smart Actions can automate order updates or lead qualification, and Tidio lists native Shopify actions. Botsmith has no integrations or public API.
  • You already use Zendesk or Salesforce. Lyro can be added to another help desk through Lyro Connect on the Plus and Premium plans.
  • You want apps for your phone and desktop. Tidio lists both.

When the bot does not know

Both products say they answer only from the content you give them, and both hand off rather than guess. The way they hand off matches their design. Tidio says that when an answer is not in your support content, Lyro forwards the question to a human agent, which assumes someone is there to pick it up. Botsmith assumes no one is watching live. It tells the visitor it is not sure, offers to take their name, phone or email, and sends that to you by email. The question also lands in a list in your dashboard. Once you write an answer there, the bot uses it from the next message on, without re-reading your website.

Trying both before you decide

  1. Start the Botsmith trial with your website address and upload any file that holds prices or policies. The trial runs for 14 days.
  2. Tidio's trial runs for 7 days, so start it when you have time to test, and remember its 50 free Lyro conversations are a one-off amount.
  3. Ask both bots the questions your customers send most, including one you know is not on your site.
  4. Count how many questions a typical visitor asks in one chat. That tells you how far a Botsmith message allowance or a Lyro conversation allowance will stretch.
  5. If Botsmith fits, add the one line of code to your site. The WordPress guide covers the most common setup.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tidio's Lyro AI agent free?

Partly. When we checked on 14 September 2026, every Tidio account started with 50 Lyro conversations for free, but that is a lifetime amount, not a monthly one. After that you need a paid Lyro plan. Botsmith has no free plan; its 14-day trial includes 200 messages and needs no card.

Is Botsmith cheaper than Tidio?

It depends on how your customers chat. Botsmith Starter is US$19 a month for 2,000 answered messages. Tidio's Lyro page quoted $0.5 per Lyro conversation, and one conversation can include many replies. Count how many questions a typical visitor asks before comparing.

Does Botsmith have a live chat inbox for my staff?

No. Botsmith is an AI bot only. Every conversation is saved in your dashboard and leads are emailed to you, but your team cannot take over a chat live. If people on your team answer chats every day, Tidio's help desk is built for that.

Can Botsmith reply on WhatsApp or Instagram like Tidio?

No. Botsmith works as a chat bubble on your website, a shareable chat link with a QR code, and automatic replies on a WeChat Official Account. Tidio lists Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and email integrations.

Can I remove the branding?

On Botsmith, the Pro plan at US$49 a month removes the "Powered by" badge. On Tidio's pricing page, removing Tidio branding was listed as an add-on when we checked.
