Botsmith vs DocsBot AI
DocsBot AI and Botsmith both read your content and answer questions in a chat window. DocsBot grew out of documentation support and now sells a broad toolkit: AI actions, skills, voice agents, help desk links and team seats. Botsmith stays narrow on purpose. It is a website support bot for a small business, and the price is set for one owner rather than a support department. This page lines up the plans and features so you can decide which one fits the way you work.

We read the DocsBot pricing page when we checked on 14 September 2026. The DocsBot amounts above are the monthly-billing prices; the same page says annual plans come with two months free, and it offers a 14-day money-back window. Botsmith prices are from our own pricing page.
Credits and messages are counted differently
This is the part that is easy to miss. DocsBot measures usage in AI credits. Its pricing page says credit usage starts at 1x per message and may use more for larger models and AI actions. So 5k credits can mean 5,000 simple answers, or fewer if you pick a heavier model or let the bot run actions. The page also explains that when you reach your monthly credit limit, your bot stops responding and shows visitors an error message until you raise the limit or the month resets.
Botsmith counts one message each time the bot answers a visitor question. There is no model to pick, so the number on your plan is the number of answers you get. If you mostly want plain answers from your website, a flat message count is simpler to budget for.
What US$49 a month buys on each
At US$49 a month the two products look very different. Botsmith Pro gives you five bots, 10,000 messages a month, 3,000 indexed pages, and no "Powered by" badge. DocsBot Personal at $49 a month gives you one bot and 5k AI credits, plus tools Botsmith does not have: three actions per bot, lead forms, scheduling links for Calendly, Cal.com and TidyCal, Zapier and workflow automations, Slack, and Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram channels. On DocsBot, the unbranded chat widget is listed only on the Business plan.
If you run several small sites, or one site with a lot of visitors, the Botsmith allowance goes further. If you need the bot inside Slack or WhatsApp, or you want it to book appointments through a scheduling tool, DocsBot covers that at the same price.
When Botsmith is the better fit
- You have a small budget and one site. Starter is US$19 a month. The lowest paid DocsBot plan is $49 a month.
- You want your own brand on the widget without moving to a $499 plan. Botsmith removes the badge on Pro.
- You look after more than one website. Pro includes five bots. On DocsBot, each extra bot is $19 a month, or you move up a plan.
- You want a link you can print. Each Botsmith bot has a chat link and a QR code that opens the conversation directly, handy for menus, flyers and email signatures.
- Your customers use WeChat. Botsmith can reply automatically on a WeChat Official Account.
- You would rather not tune anything. Add your address, upload any PDF, Word or Excel files that hold details not on your site, and paste one line of code.
When DocsBot AI is the better fit
- Your bot needs to do things, not just answer. DocsBot offers actions per bot, escalation ticket creation from the Standard plan, and Zapier automations. Botsmith has no integrations or public API.
- You want voice. DocsBot lists realtime voice agents from Standard. Botsmith is text chat only.
- Your team shares the work. DocsBot Standard includes five team users. A Botsmith account has one login.
- Your knowledge lives in many systems. DocsBot says it supports 28+ source types, including help desk and cloud sources. Botsmith reads your website, uploaded files and pasted text.
- You need formal compliance paperwork. DocsBot lists SOC 2 Type II on its Business plan.
What the day-to-day looks like on Botsmith
You enter your website address and Botsmith reads your public pages, usually within minutes. Before each reply it pulls the relevant text from your pages and files, and answers with links to the source. If your content does not cover a question, the bot says it is not sure rather than making up a price or a policy. Those unanswered questions are collected in your dashboard; answer one once and the bot uses it from the next message on. When a visitor leaves a name, phone number or email, you get an email with the full conversation. Visitors are answered in the language they write in.

- Start the free Botsmith trial and point it at your website. You can keep your DocsBot bot running while you test.
- Upload the documents your DocsBot bot relies on, such as price lists or policy files, if they are not on your site.
- Ask both bots the questions you hear most often and compare what comes back.
- If you switch, swap the DocsBot embed code for the Botsmith snippet. The WordPress guide walks through it.
