Botsmith vs Crisp

Crisp and Botsmith both put a chat bubble on your website, and that is roughly where the similarity ends. Crisp is a customer support suite your team logs into every day: a shared inbox, email, omnichannel messaging, a ticketing system and AI on top. Botsmith is a bot that reads your website and answers customers from it, with nobody sitting behind it. This page sets the two side by side on price, on what you get, and on which one suits a small business that does not have a support team.

The short version

If you have people whose job is answering customers, and those customers arrive by email, WhatsApp and Instagram as well as the website, Crisp is built for that and Botsmith is not. If the questions arriving at your website are the same fifteen questions about hours, prices, process and location, and nobody has time to answer them at 9pm, Botsmith is the cheaper and simpler answer.

What each one costs

Crisp prices per workspace rather than per seat, which is unusual and works in your favour once a team grows. We checked the Crisp pricing page on 21 September 2026 and it described the model as a flat rate per workspace, meaning a single consistent price regardless of how many conversations you have in a month.

Two details worth reading twice. Crisp lists additional agents at $10 per month beyond the seats in your plan, so a growing team adds cost in steps. And Crisp's AI allowance is a credit balance expressed in dollars, which the pricing page translates into an approximate number of automated conversations; Botsmith counts messages, so 2,000 messages on Starter means 2,000 answered visitor messages, not an estimate.

Both offer a trial without a card. Crisp says you can try any plan free for 14 days. Botsmith's trial is also 14 days, capped at 200 messages, no card.

What you actually get

The Crisp free plan includes a website chat widget and a shared inbox with 2 seats. Paid plans layer on a shared email inbox at Mini, then at Essentials an omnichannel inbox covering WhatsApp Business, Instagram DMs, SMS and others, a knowledge base, analytics and routing rules. White labelling, which removes the Crisp watermark, sits on the Plus plan at $295. Customer profile limits scale with the plan, from 100 on Free up to 200000 on Plus.

Botsmith has none of that. There is no inbox, no ticketing, no team seats, no WhatsApp. It reads your public pages and the files you upload, answers from them with source links, says it is not sure rather than inventing an answer, and emails you the transcript when a visitor leaves their details. Removing the "Powered by" badge is on the Pro plan at US$49.

The honest way to read that list: Crisp is a platform you staff, and Botsmith is a thing you set up and leave alone.

Set-up and the day after

Both take a snippet on your site. The difference is what happens next. A Crisp workspace expects someone to be in it: conversations arrive, they sit unread if nobody looks, and its AI answers well in proportion to the knowledge base and workflows you build. Botsmith builds its knowledge from pages that already exist, so the work is mostly checking that your website says what you think it says. If your opening hours are wrong on your own site, Botsmith will repeat them wrongly, and that is the main thing to fix before you start.

When Crisp is the better choice

• You have staff answering customers, and you want them in one inbox instead of four.
• Customers reach you on WhatsApp, Instagram or SMS as well as the website, and you want those threads in the same place.
• You want a ticketing system and a help centre you write and maintain yourself.
• You are a team of six to twenty, where a flat per-workspace price beats paying per seat elsewhere.
• You want to run chat campaigns and behaviour-triggered messages, not just answer questions.

When Botsmith is the better choice

• Nobody is going to watch an inbox. A shared inbox with no one in it is worse than no chat at all.
• The questions are repetitive and the answers are already written down on your site or in a PDF.
• You want a fixed monthly cost with a message count you can check, rather than a credit balance you have to convert.
• You want answers in whatever language the visitor writes in, without configuring anything.
• You want it live today, not after a week of building workflows.

And to be fair in the other direction: Botsmith is the wrong tool if you need to take over a conversation and reply as a human, because you cannot. It hands over by collecting the visitor's details and emailing you.

Using both

They are not mutually exclusive, though you would only run one bubble at a time. A common shape is Crisp for the team inbox across channels, with a separate Botsmith link on printed material, in email signatures or on a documentation site, where a full support desk is more than the job needs. Every Botsmith bot has its own link and QR code that opens straight into the chat.
